Celebrating Mark & Aina // Chief Photography: Andrew Yep // Assisted by Clive Loke // Make-up & hair by Mukhlis Idris // Wedding Decorator: Bayu Timor Production // Baju Kebaya by Ang Eng // Cheong sam by Khoon Hooi // Wedding Theme: Peranakan/Baba & Nyonya // Wedding Favours: Batik fans from Jogjakarta // Wedding venue: Aina’s house.
Mark & Aina wanted a fun and lively wedding that reflect both of their cultures, so they decided to pay homage with a colourful Baba Nyonya/Peranak Wedding theme. This makes perfect sense as Mark’s family is from Penang, while a part of Aina’s ancestral family is from Melaka. The couple made numerous trips to Peranakan hotspots such as Penang and Melaka to pick up inspirations and decor. There was even a “beca” (trishaw) which was used at the photo booth which was a real hit!
I really love the decorations as it was a clever interplay of colours with the flowers and decors. The pelamin was recreated from a Peranakan wedding bed as the centerpiece. It’s truly different and unique unlike the usual white pelamin. A lot of Peranakan pieces were used as the wedding decor – tiffin sets, colourful Peranakan and Chinese porcelain vases, a gramophone, chopsticks and other pieces to add to the rustic charm.
Aina was very close to her late grandmother, so they also had a special corner set up with framed photos of her. Aina also donned a Nyonya Kebaya with her late grandmother’s kain batik and antique jewelleries for the Akad Nikah. Hope everyone will enjoy this truly unique and beautiful wedding.
